| | | Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is an extremely effective methodology for improving the development of products, processes and services. It brings tremendous value to design, manufacturing and service organizations that successfully deploy the program. SigmaPro’s DFSS deployment strategy and curriculum provide a significant competitive advantage to our clients, and this simple fact can be verified by our client references. The SigmaPro DFSS training curriculum consists of training and certification for all organizational roles required to support successful DFSS deployment.
SigmaPro has developed and refined separate curricula for application of DFSS to industrial design scenarios as well as to service or transactional design scenarios. Technical and process design personnel receive a thorough grounding in probabilistic design, qualitative variables reduction, requirements definition and decomposition, risk mitigation techniques, and test & validation tools and methods. Product and process design managers and executives are receive hands-on knowledge and tools to assist in implementing, maintaining and managing a DFSS-based development process. Portfolio optimization, identification and selection of Design for Six Sigma projects, the DMADV methodology for DFSS projects, as well as a full suite of qualitative and quantitative tools supported by software round out the SigmaPro DFSS program. | Course Reg. Code: | DFSS192 | | Course Duration: | 2 Days | | Course Availability: | On-site Courses |
Course Agenda
Using Lean or Lean Sigma principles, many organizations have focused on the simple strategy of removing waste from their processes in order to create more value for their customers. Having shown demonstrable results in operations, Lean Sigma is now having an upstream impact on the way products and services are developed. This Lean Product Development training course examines the creation of waste from the perspective of the nine types of waste pertaining to knowledge flow. The course will help participants understand and map the true “As Is” state of the product development process with regard to the nine types of waste. Eliminating these problems helps reduce development costs and lead time, while increasing design throughput and product innovation.
This course will also help design the “Should Be” state for the product development process. Topics to be addressed include the integration of Design for Six Sigma and DFSS training, the degree to which responsibility for value creation has been centralized or spread throughout the organization, the degree to which the organization has developed coaches and mentors, the degree to which designers have responsibility for the results of their activities, how information flows and is managed, the degree to which innovation is structured in the design activity. The overall result is to streamline the product development process in order to reduce “time to market,” to increase quality, and to decrease cost. The workshop will draw heavily from the recent work of Dr. Al Ward, a renowned researcher in the field of Lean product development. The first two days of the workshop cover key learnings, case studies, classroom exercises, while the third day is devoted to hands on application of Lean product development principles to the client’s product development process.
Candidate Qualifications
There are no specific candidate requirements for this particular course. Typical participants include R&D Executives, Directors, Senior Managers, Senior Technologists, Design Engineers, Master Black Belts, and Black Belts from service and industrial organizations.
Participants Will Learn
The difference between conventional and lean product development How to document the “As Is” state for the product development process How to identify sources of waste in the product development process How to eliminate waste in the product development process How to create the “Should Be” state for the product development process How to plan for future improvements
